It’s up to you what level of involvement you want from us; you can choose from our range of services: Initial Site Visit This is an opportunity to meet you, look at your garden and listen to your ideas and garden requirements. You tell us what you want - your wish list. Together, we assess your needs and any factors to be considered: v What do you want from your garden? Terraces, lawns, borders, water features etc? v What sort of plants do you like? Roses, rhododendrons, cottage garden, evergreens? v Who will use it? This is a prime consideration. Are there pets? Will it be used by the elderly and/or small children? v What is your budget? Knowing the financial limitations allows us to focus on what may be practically achieved. v Do you have time for maintenance? How much maintenance a garden requires is dependant on the design. So if you want a low maintenance garden, we will ensure the design reflects that. At the end of the first consultation we can then suggest the course of action from the following services which is right for you. If appropriate at this point, we will take rough measurements of the garden. Following the visit we will prepare and send you a quote for our services. Consultation Visit You may prefer instead a consultation visit for specific advice and design ideas on style, plants or hard landscaping materials to develop your garden. We consider the use of space and colour, local weather conditions and microclimates. We can also give practical advice on matching plants with soil types and available light. These consultations (up to 2 hours) are followed up with written notes so that you have a record of ideas and suggestions discussed. Alternatively it will be drawn up into a client brief if you wish to proceed with design work. A fee is charged, which can be deducted from the cost of further design work if commissioned. Survey and Site Analysis Following the acceptance of the quotation your garden will be fully surveyed. This is where the potential of the site will emerge and enables us to draw a detailed plan to scale, with features that are in proportion to the size of the garden and where practical solutions can be developed. Existing external structures, large planting such as trees, existing plants, and windows and doors on the house will all be noted. Aspect, levels and views will be recorded, and a soil sample will be taken. Where the site is extremely large or complex it may be necessary to engage a specialist surveyor. Second Consultation - Concept Design We present the Concept Plan to you. This is a sketch drawing detailing suggestions and initial ideas based on the design brief and site survey. It is the basis for us to discuss, develop and approve the design proposal, hard landscaping materials and style of planting before the final drawings are produced. This is your opportunity to state any preferences you have. Layout Plan When the design and any alterations have been agreed, a hand drawn coloured detailed plan is drawn up so that a contractor can cost and build the landscaping features. Planting Plan You may not need a complete garden design but just a new planting scheme. Planting plans can be commissioned as part of an overall garden design or they can be provided to revamp your existing borders because they’re tired, overgrown or simply passed their best. Your planting plan will be a separate scale drawing with details of names, position and number of specially chosen plants selected to enhance the garden design, suit soil type and aspect. A separate list of plant names, sizes and quantities will also be supplied for costing and ordering purposes. Maintenance Plans Maintenance Plans can be commissioned as part of an overall garden design or they can be provided for your existing garden. You may have just moved to a new home, or you may have been muddling along for years. If you are happy with your garden, but need to know which shrub to prune when, and how, we can draw up a Maintenance Plan tailored to your garden. This will be a typed and illustrated, month by month guide. Contractors You may wish to undertake the landscaping yourself or use your own contractor. Alternatively we can suggest contractors who have built our garden designs to a high standard. Fees Initial visit Free of charge within a 20 mile radius of Dunchurch and without obligation on your part. For gardens outside this area, we may make a charge to cover travelling expenses. Consultation Visit A fee of £50 is charged (up to 2 hours), which can be deducted from the cost of further design work if commissioned. Design Work Design fees will vary depending on the complexity of the design and garden size.
